MacHomer on Indy TV-- See it Here!

February 23, 2002

February 23, 2002, Greencastle, Ind. - Hours before presenting his one-man show at DePauw University, the force behind MacHomer was on Indianapolis CBS affiliate WISH-TV talking about his brainchild, in which The Simpsons star in Macbeth. Rick Miller told Daybreak host Ruthanne Gordon that MacHomer started as a cast party joke when Miller was in a cast of Macbeth in the mid 1990's. "It was a parody of our show. It was 10 minutes long and had little hand puppets and then people liked the idea. I developed it into a full-length show and then many years later, in many incarnations later, it's this big beast."

The news program aired a clip of MacHomer. We have three here for your enjoyment (the full segment is embedded below): Video Link [DOWNLOAD VIDEO: "Clip 1" 1547KB]; Video Link [DOWNLOAD VIDEO: "Clip 2" 984KB]; Audio Link[DOWNLOAD AUDIO: "Clip 2" 454KB]; Video Link [DOWNLOAD VIDEO: "Clip 3" 1331KB]

Rick Miller says it was not difficult blending Shakespeare's text with the voices of 50 Simpson's characters that he single-handedly emulates. Audio Link[DOWNLOAD AUDIO: "Blending the Two" 434KB] "It's one dysfunctional family does another dysfunctional family in my mind. It wasn't so hard because, to me, what Shakespeare was doing back then was pop culture at the time and they're both very satirical."

Miller treated the WISH audience to a sample of his impersonations, which you'll find here: Video Link [DOWNLOAD VIDEO: "Voices" 1179KB] . The response to MacHomer? "It's been huge," Miller stated. Audio Link[DOWNLOAD AUDIO: "Audience Reaction" 206KB] "Even Shakespeare purists seem to like it, because I stick very close to the Macbeth, and it feels like a Macbethproduction with the lighting and the smoke and the supernatural... they love it!"

The television appearance included several mentions of DePauw, where Miller performed his show later in the evening.
