DePauw's Vince Lazar is Division III Coach of the Year
May 30, 2002
May 30, 2002, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University women's golf coach Vince Lazar has been named the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association. Lazar was one of five regional coach of the year honorees to vie for the national award.
The Crown Point, Indiana native just completed his fourth season as head coach of both the men's and women's teams and led the Tiger women to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships. DePauw placed fourth at the national tournament after winning its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship this season.
Prior to coming to DePauw in 1998, the 1987 University of New Orleans graduate served as an assistant men's and women's coach at Indiana University under Sam Carmichael. He also was the golf pro at the Martinsville (Indiana) Country Club and the Lakes of the Four Seasons in Crown Point.
A part-time instructor in DePauw's health and physical performance department, Lazar is the second DePauw coach to earn national coach of the year honors as women's basketball coach Kris Huffman (seen at right addressing a Board of Trustees luncheon) did so earlier this year.
