Music Professor's Published Work Now Available Online
January 27, 2003
January 27, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - "Vocal Compositions in German Organ Tablatures: 1550-1650," a project of Cleveland T. Johnson, professor of music at DePauw University, is now available online. Dr. Johnson's efforts have produced a searchable database of 6585 items (47 manuscript and two print sources) of mostly unpublished music for choir/organ, and fills a gap left some years ago when his book of the same name went out of print (it remains on the reference shelves of most major libraries). Johnson notes, "The new online allows students and scholars to access the information at their own desks and have the search engine sort through the extensive data."
The database can be searched using one or a combination of the eighteen available fields of information. First-time users may wish to try a simple title search, using a common title like Cantate Domino or Jubilate Deo to see the type of information available.
Professor Johnson's project was supported with DePauw Faculty Development funding for student/faculty collaborative research (Anna Klump Pilston, Class of 1995), the Instructional Technology Associates Program (Denis Sazanskiy, Class of 2003), and received assistance from Chuck Kirkpatrick, coordinator of Information Services Knowledge Team.
