April 10, 2003

April 10, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University will welcome a large crowd of admitted students and their parents this weekend for its annual Open House Weekend, capping off its fifth consecutive record-breaking admission season. Almost 200 students are pre-registered to attend, and more than 500 visitors are expected on campus this weekend. The students will come from 16 states and Canada, including locations as distant as Alaska, California, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho and New York.

"For many of these young people, it's a final opportunity to take a look around before making their decision on where they will attend college," says Madeleine Eagon, vice president for admission and financial aid. "These students have been admitted to DePauw and other top-tier schools, large and small. As we've spent the past 24 months wooing these students, we want to make certain that all of their questions about DePauw are answered and that they have a good time this weekend and leave Greencastle feeling that DePauw is where they want to spend the next four years of their lives."

DePauw University received more than 4,000 applications and will admit an incoming class of 630 students. The applications came from students from 49 states and 37 countries 1,658 high schools. Those students who have been granted admission to DePauw have a 3.76 grade point average, rank 92% in their high school class, have scores of 610 (verbal) and 630 (math) on the SAT I, and have an average score of 28 on the ACT. "We are building on the strength of four record admission seasons, both in quantity and quality of applications," Eagon notes. "School of Music recruiting has gone very well with a 58% increase in applications and strong support from the Dean and faculty in our recruiting efforts. Multicultural applications increased 24% over 2002, primarily African-American and Hispanic/Latino students, and 22% of our admitted pool are students of color."
