Class of 2003 Aims for Senior Gift Drive Record
April 10, 2003
April 10, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - After four years of classes, friendships, Monon Bell games, late-night calls to Marvin's and even, yes, boulder runs, the Class of 2003 is preparing to graduate, and, leave its permanent mark on the DePauw University campus. This week, fourth-year students are contributing to the Senior Gift Drive with a goal of bettering last year's record-setting mark of 75% participation by the Class of 2002 (read more here). The program, which began in 1998, has seen steady growth in participation rates each year.
"The Senior Gift Drive is a way to make DePauw an even better place for future generations of students," says senior and student body president Edmond Krasniqi. "The money will go into the Annual Fund and every dollar contributed will be matched by one of our generous trustees and also by Lilly Endowment (read more here), so every dollar you give automatically becomes three. The money will benefit future DePauw students by funding Winter Term trips, study abroad programs, and other academic initiatives. We'll also earmark some funds for purchase of the senior gift -- a permanent, on-campus monument to the Class of 2003."
Each student who contributes a dollar or more to the Senior Gift Drive will receive a coupon for a free half, quarter-pound garlic cheeseburger from Marvin's. By giving, you also help your living reach a 100% participation goal, and thus earn gift certificates for all of your unit's seniors. Those who commit to a three-year donation to DePauw will be entered in a drawing to win some great prizes. You may also donate money in the name of your parents or a faculty member, as a way of saying "thank you." Parents of contributing seniors will receive a special DePauw sticker to wear at commencement.
Krasniqi adds, "By giving, you forge a relationship with soon-to-be fellow alumni who see that you care about DePauw as much as they do, thus fostering good business connections. All we are asking for is one dollar. If you don't have a dollar you can borrow one from a friend, or a penny from a hundred friends. You could dig around your sofa cushions, dive for spare change in Bowman pond, look through the washers and dryers for loose change, do a strip-tease at the Hub until people give you money to stop, or head over to President Bottoms' house and ask if he has any odd jobs you could do for a buck. No matter how much you give, please give to the Senior Gift Drive."
Donations can be made through your living unit representative through Friday, April 11th. For more information, please contact Janine Ekulona at (765) 658-6303.
