Hank Leander '52 to Receive Honorary Degree from Manchester College

April 29, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - "An area captain of industry" who is a graduate of DePauw University will receive an honorary degree from Manchester College at its commencement, May 25. Indiana's Wabash Plain Dealer writes, "Receiving an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters will be Wabash County philanthropist and civic leader and former Ford Meter Box Inc. president Henry A. “Hank” Leander ... Leander, a 1952 graduate of DePauw University with an M.B.A. from Harvard University, served as a Manchester College trustee from 1988 to 1998. For more than 40 years, he was president of The Ford Meter Box Inc. in Wabash, manufacturer of water meter and water works parts and testing equipment."
The story adds that Leander "was a leader for many years in raising funds for independent higher education in Indiana and served on the board of the Associated Colleges of Indiana (now Independent Colleges of Indiana) from 1983 to 1992. He was a director of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Symphony, the First National Bank of Wabash, Lincoln Bank in Fort Wayne, the Alumni Board of DePauw University. He was a national director of the National Association of Manufacturers. A member of the board of The Honeywell Foundation Inc., Leander helped lead fund-raising for the new Honeywell Center in Wabash. 'Mr. Leander has been generous to Manchester College through his leadership of the Ford Meter Box Foundation and his own philanthropy,' Manchester President Parker G. Marden said, who particularly noted his aid to needy students from abroad."
