Dave Allan '02 Leads Ohio Amateur After Two Rounds
July 17, 2003
July 17, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - David Allan, a 2002 graduate of DePauw University, leads the 97th Ohio Amateur golf championship after 36 holes of play, the Associated Press reports. Allan says he's "scraped it" through the first two rounds. "'Funny thing -- I'm hitting the ball as bad as I can hit it,' said Allan, who shot a 74 to stand at 2-over 142. 'I'm keeping it relatively in play. I guess I've played long enough to know where it's going. I'm doing a good job of scraping it around.'"
The AP's Rusty Miller notes that "Allan is playing in his first Ohio Amateur. His biggest career victory was a win in the Cincinnati Met two years ago. The 23-year-old golf-course worker -- who plans to turn pro later this summer -- grabbed the lead with a birdie on the 18th hole. He received no recruiting letters after graduating from Mariemont High School and ended up at Division III DePauw (Indiana). He developed his game to become an All-American his junior year, adding academic All-American honors his final season."
