Alumni: Nominate a Favorite Professor for Ubben Chair
November 28, 2003
November 28, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - Alumni of DePauw University can again nominate a favorite professor to have an endowed chair named in his or her honor. Nominations are sought for deceased faculty members to honor as Ubben Chairs in three departments: anthropology, physics and psychology.
Timothy H. and Sharon (Williams '58) Ubben '58 established an endowment in 2000 in order to support 15 faculty chairs to recognize deceased professors who enriched the University and its students over the years. As desired by the Ubbens (seen in photo below), each of the chairs will be named for a deceased faculty member who distinguished himself or herself in maintaining high standards and effective teaching and service to the department or discipline.
In the past three years, Ubben Chairs were named for Walter E. Bundy, religious studies; A.W. Crandall, history; Herrick H. Greenleaf, mathematics; Hiram L. Jome, economics; Percy L. Julian '20 in honor of Donald J. Cook, chemistry; Edwin L. Minar Jr., classical studies; Laurel H. Turk, modern languages; Winona H. Welch, biology; and A. Reid Winsey, art.
