Lights, Camera, Action! On Campus Next Week

April 20, 2004

April 14, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Two alumni of DePauw University -- Jack Stahlmann '02 and Brian Goad '02 -- and current senior Michael McIraith will bring a touch of Hollywood to Greencastle. The trio will be on and around the DePauw campus April 26 & 27 shooting a short film they are producing, The Lift. McIraith is a senior Media Fellow at DePauw. The film, which will utilize professional actors from Chicago, will serve as McIlraith's senior project.

Written by McIlraith and Stahlmann, The Lift is the story of three strangers -- a businesswoman, a stressed-out bike courier and a British exchange student -- who get stuck in an elevator, "and hilarity insues," says Stahlmann, an actor in Los Angeles who has appeared on TV's Days of Our Lives. "We are shooting it on digital DV with film aspect ratio (16:9) and speed (24p). We have no distribution deal, as is the case with almost every short film. But, we will be submitting the finished product to any film festival we can get our hands on."

Stahlmann says the decision to shoot the film in Greencastle stemmed from the filmmakers' shared DePauw experience and because "studio space is free, Michael is still a student so it is convenient for him and equipment is accessible as Brian Goad (who works as an editor at a Chicago-based post-production house with two other DePauw alumni) is bringing down most of the gear from Chicago." Stahlmann will appear in the film, along with Katy Sullivan and Karl Hamilton, who are both working stage actors in Chicago.
