Purdue Considers DePauw-Inspired Buildings as it Draws Up Master Plan
June 16, 2004
June 16, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - As Purdue University looks to upgrade its campus facilities, "New apartment-style residence halls, off-campus housing and parking garages may... spring up as part of the university's 20-year, continuous master plan," the Journal and Courier of West Lafayette, Indiana, reports. The story adds, "A similar design exists on the DePauw University campus in Greencastle."
The buildings that the article alludes to are the duplexes that DePauw began constructing in the summer of 2002, after the fire at Rector Hall left the University with a shortage of housing for the upcoming semester (read more here, here and here). When it was determined that Rector Hall, which suffered heavy damage in the fire, would not be rebuilt, the University began construction on a series of three-story brick townhomes that comprise Rector Village (pictured at right; read more here and here). Two of Rector Hall's buildings welcomed their first residents in early 2004. The remaining five buildings will open to students for the fall semester.
