Alison Clark '01 to Receive 'Governor's Award for Tomorrow's Leaders'

June 16, 2004

June 16, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Alison Suzanne Clark, a 2001 graduate of DePauw University, "has been selected as one of 13 young adults from across Indiana to receive the Governor's Award for Tomorrow's Leaders. She and the other recipients will be honored Thursday at a luncheon in Indianapolis," reports the Richmond Palladium-Item. The award "was created in 2003 by the Indiana Humanities Council to recognize outstanding leaders between the ages of 19 and 29. Each recipient will receive an award and $1,000 scholarship or contribution to the charity of his or her choice." Clark plans to give $500 to Cope Environmental Center, where she serves as director of development; $300 to Girls Inc. of Wayne County and $200 to Wayne County Vision. She serves on the board of directors of the latter two not-for-profit organizations.

The article, which includes a color photo of Clark, notes that she "graduated from DePauw University with a degree in studio arts and returned to Richmond. She fell into her working at Cope by accident in 2001, but says she loves it." Cope is a regional provider and resource for environmental education. "It's not too bad coming into work with all these trees every day," Clark tells the newspaper. "And I think we're doing good stuff... Leadership and stewardship I think is something we're about at Cope."

Susie Ferrell, interim director of Cope, says Alison Clark is "one of those people who you can just say 'We need this,' and that's all you need to say. She can figure it out from there... She has been fabulous at maintaining relationships with our far-away donors and locally she has found new ones."
