1994 Walker Cup Recipient is Ellen Morrison

May 12, 1994, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University has awarded its prestigious Walker Cup to Ellen J. Morrison of Attica, Indiana, recognizing her as the senior student judged to have contributed the most to the university during her four-year college career. Morrison was announced as the recipient of the Walker Cup, named for DePauw alumnus Guy Walker Morrison, at the University's annual Awards Convocation on May 6. DePauw students nominated seniors for the Walker Cup, and the university's president made the final selection of the recipient.

During her career at DePauw, Morrison served as station manager of WGRE-FM, the student-operated radio station, during 1993-94; public affairs coordinator at WGRE during 1992-93; assistant special sections editor of The DePauw, student newspaper; worked at the DePauw television station, including being co-producer of a documentary on recycling awareness for the State of Indiana; consultant from 1992 to 1994 in the DePauw Speaking and Listening Center; and a political intern with The Honorable Richard G. Lugar, U.S. Senate, in Washington, D.C. in 1992, where she observed the political process in action and researched issues for legislative assistants.

She also was a member of the steering committee that brought the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt to DePauw in April; served as a member, chair of the facilities committee, and secretary of the DePauw Student Senate; a volunteer in the DePauw Community Service program; chair of the Presidential Commencement Committee; student representative on the Presidential Steering Committee on Minority Affairs; student representative on the Center for Contemporary Media Committee; student recruiter in the DePauw East College shade xzOffice of Admissions from 1992 to 1994; member of Ekabo House, a multicultural living unit on campus; and member of Delta Gamma sorority.

Morrison's honors include selection to Phi Beta Kappa; member and vice president of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma honoraries; member of Duzer Du theater honorary; Crain Communication Fellowship in 1993; and Eisenhower Memorial Foundation Scholarship.

A 1990 graduate of Attica High School, she is the daughter of Stephen and Carol Morrison of Attica. She is a communication major at DePauw.

Founded in 1837, DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, is a selective, coeducational, liberal arts university with nationally recognized academic programs. DePauw guarantees graduation in four years for students in 40 standard programs, or the university will waive tuition and fees for any subsequent course work necessary for graduation.
