September 27, 2004

September 27, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Yung-chen Chiang, professor of history at DePauw University, contributes a chapter to the Journal of Asian Studies (volume 63, issue 2). Dr. Chiang's essay, "Performing Masculinity and the Self: Love, Body, and Privacy in Hu Shi," appears on pages 305-332 of the journal. Published regularly since 1941, the Journal of Asian Studies has long been recognized as the most authoritative and prestigious publication in the field of Asian studies.

"Yung-chen Chiang performs an analysis of the life and autobiographical writings of the early twentieth-century Chinese intellectual Hu Shi and comes to new conclusions about how and we should interpret Hu's stance toward political activism, as well as exploring details about Hu's marriage, love affairs, and his performance and presentation of his body, especially his illnesses."
