Jim Callane '64 Honored for Contributions to High School Athletics

November 24, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Jim Callane, athletic director at Indiana's Kokomo High School and a 1964 graduate of DePauw University, is the recipient of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association's (IIAAA) Charles F. Maas Distinguished Service Award for District II. The award -- named in honor of a former IHSAA assistant commissioner -- is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to interscholastic athletics on the local and state levels."
A story in the Kokomo Perspective notes that Callane served as president of the North Central Conference Athletic Directors in 1994 and 2001 and was "instrumental in the establishment of the North Central Conference Student-Athlete All-Academic Award... In 2002, Jim was inducted into the DePauw University Athletic Hall of Fame and was also honored by the Chicagoland Prep Basketball Classic for his contribution to high school sports. During his tenure, Kokomo High School has won 4 IHSAA State Championships, 6 IHSAA State Runner-Ups, 2 IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Recipients, and 5 NCC All-Sports Champions."
