September 7, 2000
September 7, 2000, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University’s 2000 Community Day takes place Saturday, September 9, with several events planned surrounding DePauw athletic events.
The DePauw football team takes on Hanover College at 1:30 p.m. at Blackstock Stadium in a renewal of an in-state rivalry that began in 1900. Later in the afternoon, Boswell Field will be the site of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader. At 2 p.m. the seventh-ranked women’s soccer team takes on Saint Mary’s College and then at 4 p.m. the 22nd-ranked men’s team hosts Earlham College.
At halftime of the football game, over 100 former Tiger football players will be on hand to honor their former coach Edward Meyer with the dedication of the new goal posts at Blackstock Stadium in his name. Meyer (pictured at right), a 1962 DePauw graduate, has taught and coached at DePauw since 1964. His former players raised the funds to purchase the goal posts and to honor him with a dinner on Saturday evening.
Throughout the game, area high school cheerleaders will perform with the current DePauw cheerleaders. Additionally, the football program, in coordination with the American Football Coaches Association, will distribute child I.D. kits to those in attendance. The free kits will be distributed at the stadium exits at the end of the game.
Admission to all of Saturday’s events is free of charge.
