December 24, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Sixteen-year-old Katie Culver, a senior at Indiana's Lawrence Central High School who scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT test, "is undecided on her college major, but she is interested in history, political science and psychology," notes the Indianapolis Star. "She has applied -- or will soon -- to Yale, Indiana University, Princeton, Amherst, Swarthmore College, Wellsley College, Bryn Mawr, Haverford College, Smith, Kenyon College, DePauw University, University of Chicago and Washington University."
Culver, a National Merit Semifinalist who is ranked first in her class, is also "the principal violinist in the school orchestra. She also serves as co-president of the National Honor Society, is in the German Club, writes for the student newspaper and plays varsity tennis.
She tells the newspaper, "I'm not sure I do a good job of balancing things. I try to do as much as I can. I don't want to limit myself." Ed Freije, the principal of Lawrence Central, states, "We're very proud and proud to put her name on our sign out front of what a perfect student would be."
