January 13, 2005
January 13, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Duncan "Pat" Pritchett Jr., superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools and a 1969 graduate of DePauw University, has announced plans to retire at the end of the current school year, according to a story at the Web site of Indianapolis NBC affilate WTHR. "This is a happy, sad time," Pritchett says. "Being part of the IPS team for the past 36 years has been extraordinary. I look forward to these next few months as we continue to find ways to increase student achievement. That's the bottom line."
The report notes that "Pritchett is a graduate of DePauw University and has a master's degree from Butler University... Pritchett joined the state's largest school district as a teacher in 1969 right out of college and has been with the district his entire career. He moved up through the administration ranks, holding the jobs of principal, director of elementary education, administrative assistant to the superintendent, chief of staff and interim superintendent. In 1997 the school board appointed him to the top position."
