Barbara Kingsolver '77 to Deliver Commencement Address at Centre College

February 5, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Barbara Kingsolver, best-selling novelist and essayist and 1977 graduate of DePauw University, will present the address to graduates at Centre College's 182nd commencement, May 22. Centre is located in Danville, Kentucky, and the ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the Norton Center for the Arts.
"We're delighted that Barbara Kingsolver will be our commencement speaker," Centre College President John Roush is quoted in the Danville Advocate-Messenger. "She is an extraordinary writer, a champion of the environment and a courageous advocate of social justice... It's a pleasure to have her on our campus."
An article in the newspaper notes, "Kingsolver is the author of the novels Animal Dreams, The Bean Trees, Pigs in Heaven, The Poisonwood Bible and Prodigal Summer. She is also the author of volumes of short stories, poetry and non-fiction writings."
Kingsolver also received the National Humanities Medal in 2000.
