April 3, 2005
April 3, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Darryl Richardson, a senior at Wharton High School in Florida, is the Tampa Tribune's "Hillsborough County Boys Basketball Player of the Year," and according to today's edition of that newspaper, "He is entertaining options to play for DePauw University or Washington and Jefferson College. Richardson is hoping to move from being a center to a small forward in college. Whichever school he signs with, Richardson has the potential to be a quiet standout."
This season, Richardson "averaged 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 26-3 record and a district championship. Wharton's previous best team record was24-6," and led his team to the regional semifinals, writes Anwar S. Richardson.
"I never expected to be named the best athlete in the county. That is a surprise," Richardson tells the newspaper. "I want to keep improving, play in college, to keep developing my game and take it to another level."
