Georgia HS Student Athlete Chooses DePauw Over 40 Other Schools

April 14, 2005

DePauw HelmetApril 14, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - "For the past year, Jonathan Vogler has tried to figure out where he wanted to go to college," notes the Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus, Georgia of Vogler, a senior at Pacelli High School and quarterback of the football team. "He had plenty of questions to answer. Did he want to play at a Division I school? Was a Division I schools interested in him? Where was the best place for him academically? After figuring out all those answers, Vogler is headed to DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., which is 45 miles west of Indianapolis."

"(Academics) was the main thing as it is going to last the longest with me," Vogler tells the newspaper, which reports he was contacted by more than 40 colleges and universities. Vogler "had the opportunity to attend Auburn as a preferred walk-on, but would have been fourth on the depth chart," Robert Spruck writes. "Schools showed interest and then would back off throughout the process, Vogler said. 'It was frustrating,' Vogler said. 'It was tough to figure out, but DePauw was with me consistently.'"

The article points out that "Vogler threw for more than 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons at Pacelli. He also had a passer efficiency of 191.3 this season and finished his career as 21-3 as the starter with the Vikings."
