Recent Grad and Current Student -- Tennis Teammates -- Advance in Cincinnati Tournament
July 10, 2005
July 10, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - 2005 graduate Marshall Kuresman "and DePauw teammate, junior Evan Webeler, defeated Tim Geraci Sr. and Tim Geraci Jr., 6-4, 6-2 Saturday to advance to the round of 16 today" in the Thomas E. Price Metropolitan Tennis Championship," reports today's Cincinnati Enquirer. Webeler will be a junior at DePauw when students return next month. Mike Dyer writes, "Kuresman, a five-time Met player, made it to the round of 16 in the NCAA Division III singles championship in Santa Cruz, Calif. He finished the season with a 28-6 record. Kuresman's experience with tennis won't end anytime soon. Kuresman, who was a communications major, said he recently found a job with the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) in the most unique of circumstances. Enjoying his first days as a graduate, Kuresman said he and some friends went to Europe to enjoy their freedom. 'I called them from a phone booth in Florence, Italy to get the interview,' Kuresman said. 'I sat in the booth for 45 minutes in Italy and then they flew me into (Princeton, N.J.) the day after I got back.' A week later, Kuresman, 22, accepted the job offer. '(The trip) was to enjoy our last couple of weeks of freedom before work -- it was that type of trip,' Kuresman said. 'I ended up getting work on the trip; it was kind of weird.'"
The newspaper article adds, "Webeler, a 20-year-old economics major, graduated from St. Xavier in 2003. He says it's his third year playing the Met. 'We haven't really played doubles together so we have no expectations,' Kuresman said. 'We're just having fun.'"
