Prof. Bryan Hanson Publishes Understanding Medicinal Plants
July 23, 2005
July 23, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Understanding Medicinal Plants: Their Chemistry and Therapeutic Action, by Bryan Hanson, professor of chemistry at DePauw University, has just been published by Haworth Press. The back cover describes the book as "a unique work designed to explain the chemical workings of healing herbs to people who are intimidated by chemistry.. [and] explores the molecules of medicinal plants and the pharmacology behind their actions on the human body."
"This book is really much more than its title implies," notes a review by Daniel Perrine, associate professor of chemistry at Loyola College in Maryland. "Bryan Hanson has succeeded in presenting, in surprising depth and breadth, many of the essential concepts and structure of chemistry, biology, plant physiology, pharmacology, and, yes, even pharmacognosy, a discipline as rarely invoked as it is difficult to pronounce, but which is a Hanson favorite and one he clearly and simply explains."
