Bernie Haskins '98 Can't Get Football Out of His System
July 28, 2005
July 28, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - "Led by ex-Indiana University quarterback Dave Schnell and DePauw signal-caller Bernie Haskins, the Lightning went unbeaten and won the title," notes an article in Indiana's Elkhart Truth on the flag football program at the Elkhart Sports Center. "It's awesome," Haskins, who serves as an assistant football coach at Elkhart Central High School and is a 1998 graduate of DePauw, tells the newspaper. "It's exciting. It's fun to get out there and compete. I've played basketball and soccer here [at the Sports Center], and this is great."
Of the games, Haskins adds, "There's nothing like it around here. The No. 1 thing about the game is having fun. If you haven't played football in a long time or at all in the past, it's still a great time." The story notes that Haskins plays receiver on his team, while Schnell takes the snaps.
