Len LeBonar '95 Prepares for First Season as HS Football Head Coach
August 25, 2005
August 25, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - "If Maine East's football players can somehow manage to have the same vision as their new coach, things could become interesting around Dempster and Potter," writes the Pioneer Press of Len LaBonar, the new coach at the high school in suburban Chicago. "LaBonar, a 1995 graduate of DePauw University, was named to the post in late February. Almost immediately he began trying to put things in place for 2005," the newspaper notes.
"LaBonar, 32, and a history teacher at East, has a deep bond with the Park Ridge high school," according to the newspaper's Jim Edison. "A 1991 graduate of Maine East, LaBonar played both football and baseball there ... LaBonar, who has been an assistant football and baseball coach since arriving at East in 2000, knew he wanted to take on the job of head coach when it opened up last December."
"I know we have a tough road ahead and things are not going to turn around in one year," the new coach says. "But I believe we can be successful. I sometimes visualize how we can beat every team on the schedule."
