Jazz Mayhem.jpgMarch 15, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Trumpeter Jeff Helgesen and his Jazz Mayhem ensemble will perform this Thursday, March 16, as a part of the DePauw Jazz at the Duck series. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 9 to 11 p.m. at Walden Inn's Fluttering Duck and features material from the group’s recently released, self-titled recording.

The debut Jazz Mayhem disc features energetic original arrangements of post-bop compositions showcasing an exciting four-horn front line and rhythm section. Selections on the CD include classic compositions such as Wayne Shorter’s “Black Nile” and “Lady Day”, Sam Rivers’walden inn front.jpg “Beatrice”, Kenny Dorham’s “Short Story”, Clare Fischer’s “Pensativa” and more. Copies of the release will be available for purchase at the concert. The elease will also available through CD Baby.com.

Led by noted trumpeter Jeff Helgesen, an alumnus of the Ray Charles band for three years in the late 1980s, the group includes Tom Wirtel (trumpet), Chip McNeill (tenor sax), Morgan Powell (trombone), Tom Paynter (keyboard), Gary Peyton (drums), and DePauw professor and Jazz at the Duck director Paul Musser (bass).
