Noted Criminology Prof. Scott Decker '72 Accepts Chair at Arizona State West University

January 12, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - "Scott H. Decker, a well-known University of Missouri at St. Louis criminology professor and a frequent adviser to St. Louis officials, will become chairman of Arizona State University-West's criminal justice and criminology department on July 1, the university said Tuesday," reports today's edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Decker is a 1972 graduate of DePauw University. He "has been with UMSL since 1977, serving as department chairman for 15 years."
The newspaper adds, "Decker brought UMSL $4 million in funded research programs. He served as co-principal investigator for projects focusing on youth violence and he is the director of the St. Louis Homicide Project. Decker served on a panel appointed by St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa in December 2004 to recommend changes to the department's crime reporting procedures. Arizona State's criminal justice and criminology department was ranked a top-10 program nationally by researchers at the University of Cincinnati."
