USA Today Story on Seattle Seahawks Fans Quotes DePauw Sophomore
January 20, 2006
January 20, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - A USA Today front page story on the dedication of Seattle Seahawks fans notes, "Take 19-year-old Dan Lucero, a college sophomore who plans to watch from his dorm room at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. 'No one really realizes how loyal Seahawks fans are,' says Lucero, who has authored lengthy pre- and postgame critiques for each game in the past two seasons, posted on his blog. 'We feel like we're all part of the 12th man in spirit.'"
Dan Lucero is a Media Fellow from Centennial, Colorado. Seattle plays Carolina Sunday in the National Football conference title game.
The newspaper's Byron Acohido writes, "If the "12th man" makes a difference in Sunday's NFC Championship Game here between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers, it won't be by accident. When tech tycoon Paul Allen acquired the then-moribund Seahawks in 1997, he was determined not only to rebuild a team that had just endured its eighth consecutive non-playoff season but also to recreate the kind of absorbing fan experience he enjoyed as a lad attending University of Washington football games with his father."
