February 2, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Mike Howland, "who earned MVP honors for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference his senior season at DePauw," is making a difference as an assistant basketball coach at Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois, according to a story in the Algonquin Countryside. Howland is a 2002 graduate of DePauw University.
"St. Viator boys basketball coach Joe Majkowski believes he's hit the jackpot with first-year assistant Mike Hare and third-year assistant Mike Howland, two St. Viator alums who played basketball in college," writes Matt Harness. "Majkowski encourages Hare and Howland to supply suggestions on offense, defense, personnel and substitutions. He leaves keeping track of timeouts and fouls to his lower-level coaches."
Majkowski states, "They weren't just college players, but they were successful college players."
