February 20, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - "Gretchen Warner hopes to bring accountability, credibility and fiscal responsibility to the district," notes the Milwaukee Journal Sentinelof the school board candidate in Racine, Wisconsin. "She also supports the idea of policy governance, where the board sets policy and allows the administration to implement it." Warner, a 1978 graduate of DePauw University, is executive director of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education and is one of eleven candidates in Tuesday's primary.
"I work every day with the concepts of educational quality and the role of outcomes assessment in stimulating improvement," Dr. Warner tells the newspaper, which notes her DePauw degree in studio art and art history -- where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa -- as well as her advanced degrees and community service. "She also highlighted her experiences as an administrator and instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, which put her in contact with many Racine Unified students and parents and enabled her to understand their needs," the newspaper's Alice L. Chang adds.
