Soprano Alison Bates '01 Reaches Semifinals of Metropolitan Opera Auditions

March 19, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Alison M. Bates, a 2001 graduate of DePauw University, "will be competing in the semifinals of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions (today)... on the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York City. Bates is one of 24 semifinalists," reports Indiana's Columbus Dispatch.
The newspaper story points out that Bates, a soprano, "becameone of the final 24 by winning the Nebraska District Competition and the Minneapolis Regional Competition. She is a resident artist for the Minnesota Opera in Minneapolis, and will be an apprentice artist this summer for the Chautauqua (N.Y.) Opera Company in Chautauqua."
The text also notes that Bates "is a graduate of DePauw University, and she earned her master’s degree in vocal performance from Indiana University in 2004."
