Eric Edberg.jpgAugust 27, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw University School of Music's 2006-07 concert season is launched this Wednesday, August 30, when Eric Edberg, professor of cello, performs. The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center's Thompson Recital Hall, is free and open to all.

With training at Juilliard and 18 years of experience teaching at DePauw, Professor Edberg will feature music from the Romantic period. The program will include Divertimento, a F.J. Hadyn arrangement, and Sonata in F Major by Richard Strauss.

Next month, Edberg will also participate, along with other members of the DePauw faculty, in the landmark Shostakovich 100th Birthday Concert. Other performers will include: violist Nicole Brockmann, pianist John Clodfelter, violinist Allison Edberg, and vocalist Barbara Paré. The September 25 concert, slated for 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall, will feature Seven Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok, Op. 126.

Established in 1884, the DePauw University School of Music is one of the oldest institutions in the country of its kind. For more Interior_GreatHall PAC.jpginformation, click here or call (765) 658-4380.

In October 2005, DePauw University announced that a $15 million dollar lead gift by Judson Green and his wife, Joyce Taglauer Green '75, will allow for a $29 million expansion and renovation of DePauw's 32-year-old Performing Arts Center (architect's rendering seen at right). The building, home to the School of Music and department of communication, will be known as the Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts. Work is under way, and the first phase should be completed by the Fall of 2007.
