Gene Gephart '53 to Enter Ohio High Schools' Hall of Fame

Gene Gephart.jpgSeptember 11, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - "Athlete, teacher, coach, principal and community leader -- Gene C. Gephart has touched many lives as he continues to uphold the family tradition of education excellence," states the Star Beaconof Ashtabula, Ohio. Gephart, a 1953 graduate of DePauw University, is one of eight individuals who will be inducted into the Ashtabula and Harbor High Schools Hall of Fame Friday.

Now retired, Gephart served as principals at both schools and was head boy's basketball coach at Ashtabula High from 1961-71, winning 146 games.

"Gephart earned a bachelor's from DePauw University, master's from the University of Illinois and principal's certificate from Kent State University," reportsEast College (South) the newspaper. "He was awarded five varsity letters in basketball and football while at DePauw."

The text also points out, "Gephart's voice is familiar to the community; for 35 years he's been part of the radio broadcast team for local football and basketball games. Other community activities include 30 years as a Touchdown Club board member, board member of the Ashtabula County Women's Scholar-Athlete Association, Home Safe and the Ashtabula Orchestra Association."
