Former Tiger Head Coach Bill Lynch to Lead IU Football Program on Interim Basis

bill lynch sidelines.jpgSeptember 12, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Bill Lynch, assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Indiana University and former head football coach at DePauw University, is taking over the IU program as interim head coach. Indiana announced today that Lynch will take the reins from Terry Hoeppner, who is "scheduled to have surgery Wednesday for a possible tumor and might miss the next four weeks of the season," Sports Illustrated reports on its Web site. The article notes that Lynch coached at DePauw before joining the IU program.

Hoeppner's surgery will be the second he has undergone in 9 1/2 months. "A news conference was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Hoeppner, Lynch, athletic director Rick Greenspan and the team's four elected captains," notes the story.

In 2004, his one season as head coach of DePauw, Bill Lynch compiled an 8-2 record and was named co-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He previously served as a head coach at Ball State and Butler universities.
