December 11, 2006
December 11, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Nick Mourouzis, who retired as DePauw University's football coach in 2003 as the all-time leader in victories, returns to the sidelines December 16 as an assistant coach for the United States team in the Aztec Bowl. Senior defensive end Dustin Hertel, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, will play in the game, which pits the USA's top Division III against Mexico's all-stars. The contest is played in Aguascalientes, Mexico."It's a thrill for me to return to the Aztec Bowl for a second straight year, and I'm honored that head coach Bill Manlove selected me," says Mourouzis. "To be making the trip to Mexico with Dustin Hertel, a student-athlete I recruited and have tremendous regard for, makes it very special."
The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season-ending game for Mexico's college football schedule. The game has been played 35 times since 1947 with the last nine contests featuring the United States-Mexico matchup. The USA leads the series, 8-1.
