Tigers Claw But Can't Claim Monon Bell in 20-14 Loss

November 11, 1972, Crawfordsville, Ind. - The Tigers put up a valiant fight, but when the final gun sounded Wabash College was left with a victory and control of the Monon Bell, 20-14 at Little Giant Stadium this afternoon. Six DePauw turnovers -- five of them fumbles -- made a record-setting performance by sophomore running back Bart Simpson a footnote to the game and not the headline.

Simpson rushed for a school record 170 yards in the contest, erasing the previous mark of 143 set by George Mestousis in 1958. Simpson finished the season with 727 rushing yards, obliterating the 1955 record of 664 set by Art Bryant.

DePauw finishes the 1972 season with a 2-7 record; Wabash ends at 3-6.
