Prof. Sandy Williams Opens 'Jazz at the Duck' Season Thursday

January 31, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Sandy Williams, guitarist and instructor in the DePauw University School of Music, will open the spring season of DePauw Jazz at the Duck this Thursday, February 1. Performing at Walden Inn's Fluttering Duck from 9 to 11 p.m., Williams' performance is free and open to the public.
An accomplished studio musician based in Indianapolis, Williams is a versatile musician active in the city's growing recording industry. His quartet features saxophonist and director of jazz studies at DePauw Randy Salman and provides listeners with a wonderful balance of classic jazz standards and funkier fare. Bassist and series organizer Paul Musser (who is also a member of the DePauw School of Music faculty) and distinguished drummer Arthur Reiner round out the rhythm section for this opening date.
Now in its fifth season, DePauw Jazz at the Duck features area musicians as well as DePauw's talented jazz students. With weekly programs each Thursday evening through May 10, the series is always presented free of charge. Upcoming highlights include the John Spicknall Trio on February 8, OffRamp Quartet February 22, and Condition Blue featuring Randy Salman performs March 1.
