Winter Storm Warning In Effect; Evening Classes Canceled
February 13, 2007
[UPDATE: ALL EVENING CLASSES CANCELED]
February 13, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until midnight for much of Central Indiana, including Greencastle and Putnam County. About four inches of snow fell overnight, and more is expected today at times possibly mixed with sleet and freezing rain. The total accumulation, according to the National Weather Service, could reach or exceed 12 inches.
A combination of freezing rain and sleet began falling overnight. As of 9:20 a.m., DePauw Public Safety reported that travel conditions in Greencastle appeared to be deteriorating as the icy mix hardened and was becoming more slick. At 3 p.m. the precipitation continued.
The University operated as normal today and most classes were held as scheduled. By 3:45 p.m., as the weather continued to worsen, the Office of Academic Affairs decided to cancel all evening classes. The music and science libraries will close at 9 p.m. and the hope is to keep Roy O. West Library open until midnight if staffing will allow for it.
The University will make a determination early tomorrow morning regarding the status of classes Wednesday.
