Prof. Clifton Phillips Invited to Special Institute on Chinese Civilization in Taiwan

Clifton Phillips 2.jpgMay 24, 1962, Greencastle, Ind. - Clifton J. Phillips, professor of history at DePauw University, has received a Fulbright Award to attend a special institute on Chinese civilization this summer. Dr. Phillips is one of 30 U.S. college professors invited to the institute at Tunghai University at Taichung, a city in central Taiwan. He will leave Indiana about June 20, and return September 1.

The participants will study aspects of Chinese civilization during their stay. They expect to take short side trips to Tokyo, Japan, and Hong Kong as part of the institute work.

A native of Olean, N.Y., Phillips joined the DePauw faculty in 1954 after receiving his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He is a graduate of Hiram College and also holds the M.A. from Harvard.
