Quest for Fire Poster.jpgApril 6, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Actress Rae Dawn Chong will be on the DePauw University campus this Monday, April 9, for the first of several appearances she'll make in coming days. At 7:30 p.m., a special screening of Jean-Jacques Annaud's film Quest for Fire will take place in Watson Forum of the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media. Chong is coming to Central Indiana to star in Rhythms -- a play written and directed by Chris White, assistant professor of English at DePauw, and produced by Tim Good, associate professor of communication and theatre at the University. Through a professional development grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the play will be staged at the Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis April 12-15, then come to Rae Dawn Chong.jpgDePauw for two performances, April 17 & 18. The play's cast also includes acclaimed New York theatrical actor Nicole Halmos. The DePauw shows both begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be presented free of charge.

Writing in the New York Times, Janet Maslin opined, "Quest for Fire is a unique achievement on the part of film makers who have unmistakably worked long, hard and well." Fellow critic Steven H. Scheuer calls the film an "Imaginative, expertly realized adventure fantasy looking at prehistoric man's attempts to survive in the Ice Age."

Rae Dawn Chong -- whose other credits include The Color Purple, The Principal and Constellation -- will also hold a workshop on acting in film, Thursday, April 12, at noon in the Performing Arts Center's Kerr Theatre.
