July 9, 2007
July 9, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Caroline B. Smith, associate professor in the DePauw University School of Music, will present a master class Thursday at the Interlochen Arts Academy's Advanced Summer Vocal Institute. Professor Smith will have the opportunity to work with six select singers and hold a question and answer session for all in attendance. An active soloist, clinician and adjudicator, Professor Smith was recently appointed to the editorial board of American Music Teacher, the journal of the Music Teachers National Association. She is the first professor of voice to serve on the board.
"It is an honor to be chosen to serve on this editorial board as the first vocal consultant," Smith says. "The organization is making a conscious effort to try and expand its base and appeal to areas other than piano. I look forward to lending input to articles and broadening the direction of the journal.”
In May, Professor Smith traveled to San Francisco to give a master class at the National Classical Singer Convention. She also served as a judge for the semi-final round of the national high school contest sponsored by Classical Singer Magazine and represented DePauw at the College Expo Fair.
