Franklin Scores 23 Straight to Beat DePauw 23-15

September 30, 1995, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's Tigers jumped out to a 15-0 halftime lead, but Franklin's Grizzlies had the last say in scoring 23 unanswered points in the second half to defeat DePauw in Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference action, 23-15. With the win Franklin improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the ICAC, while DePauw is 2-2 overall and 0-1 in ICAC play.

Rick Etienne (Jr., Danville, Ind./Avon) topped Franklin's rushing attack with 91 yards on 22 carries and also hauled in 10 passes for 101 yards. He scored on a 29-yard pass play from quarterback Scott Sherry (Jr., Griffith/Griffith) for Franklin's first score in the third quarter and capped off the Grizzlies scoring on a 21-yard run in the fourth.

The Tigers scored all 15 points in the second quarter with the first three coming on a 19-yard field goal by Jason Gardner (Rockville, Ind./Rockville). With 6:47 left in the first half, Jon Clippinger (So., Indianapolis/North Central) tossed a touchdown pass to Jay Pettigrew (Jr., Indianapolis/Northwest) which was tipped by DePauw receiver Peter Dousman (Jr., Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville). The Tigers scoring ended with Jon Holloway's (Jr., Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) 74-yard punt return for a score with 4:56 left in the half.

Following Etienne's touchdown reception, Matt Bessler (Sr., Moores Hill/South Dearborn) rushed in from five yards out and the try for two failed leaving DePauw with a 15-13 lead. That score was set up three plays earlier by a Swede Steigerwald (Sr., Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) 74-yard interception return to the DePauw five-yard line. Shaun Mahoney (Sr., Columbus, Ind./East) put Franklin ahead for good with a 28-yard field goal to start the fourth quarter. Etienne's scoring run gave the visitors the insurance they needed and was set up by Jim Rose's (Sr., Valparaiso, Ind./.Valparaiso) block of Matt Hollway's punt.
