Football Tigers Improve to 3-0 After Taming Sewanee, 14-10

DePauw Football 2006 11.jpgSeptember 22, 2007, Sewanee, Tenn. - DePauw University's football team improved its season record to 3-0 and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference by toughing out a 14-10 victory over Sewanee (University of the South) this afternoon. It marks the first time since 1985 that the Tigers have opened a season with three straight victories. The hosts fall to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in SCAC competition on the season.

DePauw’s Dorrius Ford started the scoring with a one yard touchdown run in the second quarter, capping a 63 yard Tiger drive. Sewanee tied the game before the half, and the score remained knottedNCAA Football Wilson.jpg until early in the fourth quarter, when Sewanee took a 10-7 lead on a field goal. A second TD by Ford, who rushed 20 times for 75 yards provided the winning score.

Sophomore Tiger quarterback Spud Dick connected on 22 of 32 passes for 208 yards.

DePauw's all-time leading rusher, Jeremiah Marks, was forced to sit out the contest due to a minor injury.

DePauw is back home next Saturday to face Millsaps College in a Family Weekend game at Blackstock Stadium.
