Musical Legacy of Joyce Fry '70 Celebrated
October 21, 2007
October 21, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Joyce (Moore) Frye, a 1970 graduate of DePauw University, "is retiring from First Baptist Church, Crawfordsville, after 47 years of being the church’s music director," reports today's Crawfordsville Journal Review. "She has taken the church from an adult choir and a children’s choir to nine areas of music ministry," writes Aleasha Sandley. "Music is an important form of worship, Fry said, because it can involve people who might be uncomfortable preaching and can attract those who might not have been interested in religion."“It’s kind of a sermon in itself, scripture in words set to music,” Fry tells the newspaper. “While you have them listening to beautiful sounds you can tell them about faith and how God can change their lives,” she adds.
In addition to citing her faith, Fry offers thanks in the article to "her parents, both of whom are still alive in their 90s, for starting her on the path to music and supporting her through her bachelor’s degree in music and art from Manchester College and master’s degree in music from DePauw University," notes Sandley.
