Donald Findlay '56 Presented with UIC's Humanitarian Award
October 23, 2007
October 24, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Donald C. Findlay II, volunteer director of Findlay Dental Center in Elkhart, Indiana and 1956 graduate of DePauw University, is the 2007 recipient of the University of Illinois at Chicago's Humanitarian Award. A retired dentist who earned his dental degree from the UIC College of Dentistry and now coordinates volunteers to provide dental care for the indigent, Dr. Findlay was honored by UIC this month.
The award is bestowed by the UIC Alumni Association upon alumni who have made significant humanitarian contributions to society, which have improved or enriched the lives of others and the welfare of humanity.
The Findlay Dental Center provides comprehensive dental care -- including emergency care, dental examinations and treatment planning -- to the community's underserved and working poor. Findlay played a pivotal role in establishing the center (originally known as the Heart City Dental Center) in 2002. In recognition of his efforts, the center was renamed for him in 2004.
Findlay, an advisory member of DePauw's Board of Trustees, was honored as the 2005 "Humanitarian of the Year" by the United Labor Agency of Elkhart County, and in 2003 became a "Sagamore of the Wabash," the highest honor bestowed by the governor of Indiana.
