Prof. Emeritus Agnes Beaudry Passes Away

November 24, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Agnes Ruth Porter Beaudry, who taught French at DePauw University for 31 years, died November 21. She was 74 years old.
Born December 9, 1932 in Charleston, West Virginia, Agnes Beaudry received her B.A. in French and English from Marshall University in 1954, an M.A. in French from Case-Western Reserve University in 1958, and the Ph.D. in French from the University of Illinois in 1968.
Before joining the DePauw faculty in 1967, Dr. Beaudry served as a high school teacher in Ohio and Virginia (1954-1959) and aninstructor of French at Fort Hays State College (1959-60), Muskingum College (1960-62) and the University of Illinois (1962-67). She served as a faculty member in DePauw's department of Romance languages until her retirement in 1998.
Professor Beaudry remained active after ending her teaching career, becoming a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and continued her work as associate editor of the Simone de Beauvoir Studies.
Her publications included articles in French Review, American Journal of Semiotics and International Fiction Review, and the book Marcel Proust: A Critical Panorama. Beaudry was a member of the American Association of Teachers of French, Modern Language Association of America, and the Women's Caucus for Modern Languages. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Grant (1954-55) and a National Endowment for the Humanities summer seminar grant (1979). She also served as the DePauw faculty liaison for the DePauw International French Semester.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield, Indiana.
