December 12, 2007
December 12, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "Interactive Motorsports and Entertainment Corp., an Indianapolis-based designer and manufacturer of race car simulators, recently signed a deal to put its proprietary NASCAR simulators on a Carnival Cruise Lines ship," begins a report on the company which is led by a 1978 DePauw University graduate. Carnival planned to "display a top 12 leader board during the week, and create a competition to crown a cruise racing champion each week," William R. Donaldson, chairman and CEO of Interactive, tells the Indianapolis Business Journal. He adds, "Cruise ships are one of our many targets for installations going forward, and we look forward learning from the current Carnival cruise test."
The two NASCAR simulators are being tested on the Carnival Triumph through December 15, IBJ notes. "Interactive Motorsports and Entertainment manufactures race car simulators, then sells or leases them to contracted parties in malls, amusement parks, family entertainment centers, casinos and auto malls. The company also offers race-simulator experiences for trade shows and mobile faninteractive experiences. Under team and track licenses from NASCAR, simulator customers experience driving in a NASCAR car that simulates the motion, sights and sounds of an actual race."
Bill Donaldson was an economics major and lettered in baseball at DePauw. He has been a major influence in the international racing industry for more than 23 years and formerly served as the executive vice president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
