Barbara Yuncker '43 Honored as 'Newspaper Woman of the Year'

April 26, 1979, Greencastle, Ind. - Barbara Yuncker, medicine-science editor of the New York Post and 1943 graduate of DePauw University, was today presented with the New York Women in Communications' "newspaper woman of the year" award. The award was presented at a luncheon today at which First Lady Rosalynn Carter was the featured speaker. At DePauw, Yuncker was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors in English. In 1976, her alma mater gave her an honorary doctor of letters degree in recognition of her leadership on science and medical reporting. Her father, Truman G. Yuncker, was a botany professor at the University.
Founded in 1929, New York Women in Communications, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that offers programs to advance the practice of communications and to meet the professional development needs of those practicing in the print, broadcast and electronic communications fields.
