José White String Quartet Performs February 6

January 31, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - On Wednesday, February 6, the José White String Quartet, a guest ensemble of the DePauw University School of Music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Green Center for the Performing Arts' Thompson Recital Hall. The concert, which is free and open to all, will also feature DePauw piano professor May Phang.
Based in based in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the José White String quartet is composed of four young Latin American musicians. The members pay tribute to José Lafitte White, one of Cuba's greatest violinists of the 19th- and early 20th-century, and the only Cuban violinist to have a world-class career based in Europe.
The quartet won the first and only prize in the Third National Competition of Chamber Music in Guanajuato, Mexico in 2000, that country's most prestigious musical accolade. Their first compact disc was released on the Quindecim record label.
