April 1, 2008
April 1, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - Stanford K. McCoy, a 1993 graduate of DePauw University, has been promoted to Assistant United States Trade Representative for intellectual property and innovation. He takes on his new role after serving as chief negotiator for intellectual property enforcement as well as associate general counsel for the USTR.
In announcing the appointment, United States Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab pointed to the "wealth of expertise and knowledge" that McCoy brings to his new position. "Stan will lead efforts against intellectual property violations impacting consumers and industry," said Ambassador Schwab.
McCoy will now serve as the principal adviser to Ambassador Schwab and Deputy USTR John Veroneau on intellectual property issues and will be responsible for developing and implementing trade policy aimed at reducing counterfeiting and piracy and enforcing protections for both.
The announcement notes McCoy's DePauw degree as well as the juris doctor he earned from the University of Virginia. Before joining the USTR, he was with the law firm of Covington and Burling in Brussels, Belgium, and Washington, D.C., where he focused on international intellectual property enforcement, international trade law, and other matters.
