April 5, 2008
April 5, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "I've learned that if you don't view age as a liability, but as an advantage, you can do whatever you want to do," says 2006 DePauw University graduate Patrick Y. Matheny. This week, Matheny filed papers to run as a write-in candidate for Ohio's 76th House District seat. The 24-year-old is the subject of a profile in the Findlay Courier.
Matheny, who is who is the director of operations at the Wine Merchant in Findlay, will challenge incumbent state representative Cliff Hite in November. The newspaper points out that "Hite and his new opponent have a history together. Matheny played football at Findlay High School while Hite was the head coach."
Matheny's interest in politics began when he took part in the "Youth in Government" program at Findlay High School. He was a political science major at DePauw.
"My college professors, especially Dr. Robert Calvert, really stoked the fire that has led me to enter this race," Matheny says. "I am a young person, but I feel a real need to give something back to my community and view this as an opportunity to step up and make a difference."
